Special Education Services

French River offers Special Education evaluations and service in the following areas: Occupational, Physical, Speech/Language therapy and Assistive Technology.  Our clinicians are Massachusetts licensed with some also holding licensure in Connecticut.

  • Occupational therapy assessment and treatment focuses on sensorimotor, sensory integration, feeding protocols, fine motor, perceptual integration along with activities of daily living and functional vocational skills. Occupational therapy works closely with behaviorists to reinforce and strengthen behavior plans.

  • Physical therapy works to improve mobility, balance and all aspects of physical functioning for safe maximum independence in a student’s school environment.  Via collaboration with a pediatric mobility specialist, we can assist schools with equipment needs for school based programs for students with multiple physical challenges.  Diagnosis of autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury and muscular syndromes are treated.

  • Speech and language therapy encompasses a varied and wide spectrum of diagnosis including but not limited to autism, expressive and receptive language, non verbal children, oral motor, auditory processing, pragmatic language and fluency.

  • Assistive technology evaluation and treatment is utilized to incorporate technology into a student’s school day to improve independence and increase access to the curriculum. A team approach is utilized with a student’s caregivers to determine the level of technology that best moves the student’s goals forward to increase participation in learning, recreation, working and all aspects of their lives.
