Here’s our first graduate course offering
of the summer…
Attention…..Special Education, K-12 Classroom and Inclusion
Teachers:
Do you need content-area PDPs
for re-certification? If so, this three (3) credit graduate course (worth 67.5
content-area PDPs) is for you. You
can register for the course now, but send no tuition until June 1. Read below for more details…
In partnership with Framingham State College (FSC),
French River Education Center, is now accepting registrations for a week-long,
summer graduate course titled "Including
Special Needs Students in the Classroom" (PRDV
75017) with Dr. Elizabeth Zielinski. Click here for
more information.
This course with Dr. Zielinski promises to be outstanding and professionally
rewarding. It offers an opportunity for regular education classroom teachers to
get the kind of training that will enhance their ability to work with special
education students assigned to their classroom--training that regular education
teachers say they very much need---while at the same time, help special
education teachers be better informed and more ready to assist classroom
teachers with ideas and strategies when working in the inclusion classroom.
NOTE: This
notice is being posted now well in advance of the summer so, if you are
interested, you can make your summer plans around these dates.
The course will be held at Auburn High School and will meet weekdays starting
Monday, June 28 to Friday, July 3. Class time is 8:00a.m. - 3:30p.m. Tuition
for 3 FSC graduate credits is $485 for teachers from
French River member districts and $575 for staff from non-member districts.
The deadline for registering is June 22.
No tuition money is due at this time.
But to save a space in this course, send the registration form now. We will
bill you on or about May 15 if you decide to register for the course. If you have any questions regarding the
course or the instructor, please contact Maddy Dudley
at 508-987-0219, ext. 104.

Are you pursuing a preliminary license in
Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or Moderate Disabilities? If
so, the following may be of interest to you…
If you are seeking a
preliminary license in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education,
besides possessing a bachelor's degree, a passing score on the Communication/Literacy
Skills and subject matter knowledge tests; and, in some cases, a competency
review, the MA Department of Education's Regulations for Educator Licensure
(603 CMR 7.04 subsections 5a and 5b) outlines
additional requirements for teacher candidates. Unless you have had these
seminar topics as undergraduate courses, or you can document experience in the
areas these seminars address, you must also complete four (4) 10 hour seminars
that address teaching Reading, English language arts, and Mathematics and Inclusion
with an emphasis on ways to prepare and maintain students with disabilities for
general classrooms. French River has a program designed to satisfy this
requirement.

Teacher
licensure in Massachusetts is a two step process requiring teachers to first
obtain an Initial License and then go on to earn a Professional
License in the same field within five years.
Do you hold Initial
Licensure in the above referenced fields and do no expect to complete a
Masters in the same field within 5 years? If so, the following may be very important to you.
To obtain Professional Licensure, teachers must satisfy five
additional criteria:
· A Department of Education sponsored Performance
Assessment Program;
OR
· An approved Masters Degree program in the same field
as your initial license;
OR
· A
Massachusetts Department of Education approved, district-based program with at
least 50 contact hours of content-based seminars beyond the induction year.
As to the latter, French River Education
Center, in partnership with Framingham State College (FSC), is pleased to
announce that the Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE) has recently
designated the Center an “approved
site” for District-Based/Content-Based, Professional Licensure programs in the following:
What does this mean for you?
You do not have to take a State test or “Performance Assessment” to earn Professional Licensure and you do not have
to enroll in or complete a Master’s program in any one of these program areas
within 5 years of hire to earn Professional
Licensure. You can enroll in any one of the Center’s DOE approved district-based programs, start in January 2010, successfully complete 2 or 3
courses (depending upon your certification field) and complete your Professional Licensure program
requirements by December 2010.
NOTE: All Licensure
Program Courses are held at Oxford High School, Route 12, Oxford, MA – [Click
